Rodger, do you always travel the Interstates? The last few times we have been to Colorado we have taken Route 36 rather than I-70. It takes a little longer but going through the small towns breaks up the monotony of the Interstate. It is mostly rural driving and straight as can be across the Country. We just like going that way. If you take I-70 to St. Louis you are going too far south .We take it from where it starts just east of Denver to Springfield, IL and go north but to Ft. Wayne you could take 36 to Indianapolis then north. Or, take Route 36 across the Mississippi River into IL and then I-72 from there. Another plus is you go through Hannibal, MO (Mark Twain country). If you haven't been there it is an interesting little river town. Something to think about.
Hola Les
I looked at the last postings city ( San Diego ) and then went to Google Maps
and typed in Fort Wayne. Looked at the two routes they showed and made a
friendly " lets meet and convoy note".
Instead of getting a reply from a John in San Diego --- I get a guy from The Great Lakes Chapter that lives some where in Mich.
In answer to your question --- No I do not always use The Free Ways. It was used because of the distance to be driven - The possible time limit - and the cost of the
distance vs heading East on Hwy 94 - Through Down-Town Pumpkin Center - "dog
legging" through Kit Carson - on to First View and making my way to Fort Wayne
( which is what we did to get to Ring Gold ).
Last year we went to Austin-Minn and toured The Spam Museum before we ever
got to The National Convention.

Rodger, just making a suggestion I thought you might want to consider. We always took the Interstates to and from CO until we discovered route 36. We think I-80 across Nebraska or I-70 across Kansas has to be two of the most boring drives in the Country. We like route 36 because going through some small towns breaks up the monotony of several hundred miles of Interstate driving that tends to put me to sleep. Les

All you need to do is sing your favorite song:
I'm so vane ...
This rides all about this De Soto ...
and all the other lines that are part of it.
Or is it:
Goin to The Convention ...
and I'm goin to see De Soto-ites ...
Please seek out and save a spot In The Shade for when we have Ice Cream on Friday at The Social.

Grass or asphalt? Directly across Paul Shaffer Drive from the hotel, or across E. Coliseum Blvd?
Previously I had looked at the MapQuest aerial and street views, and saw construction across from the hotel, but a large parking lot across Coliseum Blvd, a major road.
Today I looked on Google Map. It looks like the sitework is done. The aerial view shows a new level field across Paul Shaffer Drive from the hotel, and beyond that, a former baseball field obliterated. A path crosses these fields and bridges the river. The bridge is named "St. Joe Pathway". Cool. Lots of walking paths. My old-fashioned paper map says that it's the St. Joseph River, that flows south to meet the Maumee. "Maumee, how I love ya, how I love ya..." Sorry. I'll go to my corner now.
I'm betting that the show will be on the grass across Paul Shaffer Drive.
Of course, Dan Lyman and I will be there with cameras "blazing" (if my Pentax isn't back from repairs, I'll have a different one that works!)
We'll be setting up a "Magazine Show" tent for the show just like we've set up at local car shows, showcasing the NDC and I-CAR "Gold Class".
Hopefully, we'll be dragging my '47/2 Custom Coupe with us, up from the Northern Cincinnati area.
Can't wait to see you all once again!

parking on pavement vs grass question:
Since I wasn't sure which one we'll be parking on come Saturday, I sent an e-mail to Tim Fagan with this question; here's his reply:
"The show is on lot. # 5 which is surrounded by grass and shade trees.
It is a beautiful spot allowing cars to not sink in ground but, we have shade to sit and visit in. It will work great."
So it sounds like to me that we'll be parking on pavement, but have grass near by to sit on while under these shade trees.

Thanks for checking.
Maybe I'm too much of a worry wart. If something can go wrong, it probably won't, because someone's got it covered, and they've done this before, but I can still worry about it.
I searched IPFW campus plan and got a good sense of the layout. Parking Lot No. 5 is across the river from the hotel and down the road. It looks like we'll have the usual caravan Saturday morning from the hotel to the site.
Thanks for the information. I was able to send a PDF of the campus plan to my son, who will be dropping in on the car show: I told him the show location.
I'll try to attach the campus plan. Well, that didn't work. Anyway, you can search IPFW campus plan.
